It was originally built as a pair of semi-detached Victorian Gothic houses constructed to look like one large house. The Reverend Ewing cared deeply about the appearance of his buildings and this property was no exception. Being constructed with an attractive red brick the exterior of the house is decorative, with windows framed by white bricks set into two tall gable-ends, and offers substantial accommodation spread over three floors. A small dormer window was built into the grey slate roof with attractive scalloped white bargeboards hung from the roof and over the entrance porch which was set back from the front of the house. This space has now been filled by an enclosed storm porch. The chimney stacks stand at the gable-end.
