SITUATION




Dalnahua is situated on the Coastal Road to Colintraive which is on the west coast of the Cowal peninsula, facing the Kyles of Bute. The village is quite small with few facilities, primarily the hotel/pub-restaurant , a small post office and the Caledonian MacBrayne ferry terminal to the Isle of Bute. The name Colintraive derives from Gaelic and means \"swimming straight\" or \"swimming narrows\". It is said that in the past, the cattle swam over from the Isle of Bute to Colintraive on their way to the markets of lowland Scotland. The nearest town of notable size is Dunoon, which is approx. 16 miles or a thirty minute drive away on the east coast of the peninsula, facing Gourock and the River Clyde.




Dunoon itself is a small town set in the beautiful Cowal Peninsula of Argyll and yet within just over an hour's commuting distance to the centre of Glasgow. Argyll Ferries run a passenger only ferry service to Gourock connecting with trains to Glasgow Central. Western Ferries run a more frequent vehicle and passenger service from nearby Hunter's Quay to McInroy's Point with Citylink bus connections to Buchanan Street bus station, Glasgow. Dunoon is approximately one hour from Glasgow Airport and offers a secondary school, a modern leisure centre, an eighteen hole golf course, two supermarkets, a library, a variety of individual shops, restaurants, pubs and a cinema.
