About the Area
Butleigh is an historic village within easy reach of the surrounding towns and also Yeovil to the south and Bath and Bristol to the north. The A303 is just south and there is a main rail line station at Castle Cary. Glastonbury is the nearest town and its past and its present are linked with its dominant landmark, the Tor. It's been a religious centre throughout history and further back into the times of legends. There was a Celtic monastery here by 500AD which, during the next 1000 years evolved into one of England's wealthiest and most influential abbeys. The town grew up alongside the Abbey and is now a small but thriving town and a major tourist venue. Just 5 miles from Glastonbury is Wells which is the smallest city in England. Its centre is the market place (local markets twice a week) surrounded by many medieval buildings including the Cathedral and moated Bishops Palace. Butleigh is linked historically and currently to both towns which provide most facilities and amenities.

*
There are excellent state schools including the primary school in the village, St. Dunstans, Wells Blue School and StrodeCollege. The independent sector includes Millfield, Wells Cathedral School, Downside, All Hallows and the Bruton schools. The surrounding and nearby countryside includes rolling farmland, wooded hills and the Mendip Hills (an area of outstanding natural beauty), all providing a wonderful habitat for wildlife and all remarkably accessible and available. This friendly and popular village has a population of around a thousand, a thriving general stores shop and post office, an active church, a very well regarded nursery and primary school, an excellent pub (good food) and various societies and organisations including a local cricket club. Within easy reach are many societies and clubs with a wide coverage of sporting and cultural activities.

Accommodation
Barton Road is a quiet area on the southern side of the village yet in walking distance of the amenities, Oddway House is a detached Victorian house (which is not listed) standing within its own gardens. The house is very spacious with flexible accommodation with partial double glazing and gas central heating. It has an interesting layout which is flexible. As with many country properties the main entrance door leads into a large farmhouse style kitchen with a quarry tiled floor, french doors to the garden, pine units with worktops, a butler's sink and an Aga. Other appliances include a gas hob and an integrated dishwasher. At the back of the kitchen are a walk-in shelved pantry, a storeroom with a boiler and a boot room with plumbing for a washing machine and a back door to the gardenOff the kitchen room is a very attractive \"garden room\" with an oak floor, tall oak framed windows a double pitched ceiling, wood burning stove and double french doors to the garden.

**
Off the other side of the kitchen is a music room with doors to the hallway and the playroom. The hallway retains its original stone staircase and gives access to a shower room which has a basin, wc and shower cubicle. The sitting room, entered from the hall is a charming, peaceful room with an oak floor, fireplace with a wood burner and side alcoves with pine bookshelves and cupboards.N.B. The sitting room and the adjacent playroom were previously one large room and the oak floors in both are continuous with the partition wall constructed above the oak floorboards. The large room was subdivided for family use but the owners had considered returning it to one room.

First Floor
On the first floor there is a spacious landing. The master bedroom has double fitted wardrobes and cupboards and a central chest of drawers. There are 4 other good size bedrooms and the 5th bedroom also has built in wardrobes. The bathroom has timber panelling, a basin, wc and a bath.

Outside
The house sits well with its garden, protected and screened by mature hedges. There is a gravelled parking courtyard and a small front garden with a wisteria and rose covered porch. At the rear and side is a mature mainly lawned garden with shrubs, flowerbeds, apple and pear trees and a paved terrace.
