Property description

Marigold Court is a substantial Grade II listed period property set in approximately 1.25 acres including a 0.6 acre enclosed paddock. The property dates back to 1675 and has a host of original features and comprises the original house with two adjacent cottages – The Lodge and Keepers Cottage.

Enjoying a high level of privacy the main unmarked entrance is off Bromley Heath Road from Moorend Road or the A4174, behind an electrically operated wrought iron gate and down tree filled park land.

The gardens also overlook the River Frome at a wide point, once the mill pond which serviced the mill which gave the name to the lane. Steps lead to a section of the river belonging to Marigold Court which also enjoys fishing rights.

There can be few properties that compare with Marigold Court with its accommodation, private location, ancient history, paddock and fishing rights.

Hambrook is a small Hamlet with a history. In 1086 the area was recorded in the Domesday Book as 'Hambroc'. Although only the manor is mentioned in the Domesday Book there was almost certainly a settlement here in the 11th century and is likely to have been first settled in the late Saxon period. The village was principally involved in the wool trade and by 1712 Hambrook is recorded as a large hamlet containing 46 families.

With the increasing expansion and industrialisation of Bristol many of the rich middle classes moved out to more tranquil rural surroundings building for themselves large houses set within their own landscaped grounds such as Marigold Court.

The village of Winterbourne is close by providing many day to day facilities, including a Bank, local Co-Op Store, Post Office, Hair Dressers, Opticians, Library, Doctors Surgery and Dentists. There are a number of primary schools within the area including Hambrook Primary School, together with secondary and sixth form education at The Ridings' Federation Winterbourne International Academy.
