Property description
This property has an enviable position in the village, tucked away out of sight from the road, which provides greater degrees of privacy, peacefulness and a naturally safer environment for children and pets. It is one of a pair of individually-styled detached houses built approximately twenty years ago by a local builder with a reputation for quality, and is approached through a five-bar gate from a lane serving just two other homes.
The house itself is just as special as the location; crossing the threshold to the entrance hall you are immediately met with an impression of spaciousness and quality. Underfoot Italian ceramic tiles meet a magnificent staircase that rises beyond a lofty cathedral window to a galleried first-floor landing. The rooms have a lovely flow as one might expect of a well-thought-out design. The living room is an immense double-aspect family space with a proper working fireplace – Beech hardwood flooring and two sets of French doors leading into a generously proportioned dining area and also the conservatory with its fantastic countryside view. Moving from room to room we notice the present owners have had stylish shutters fitted to the windows and the flooring changes to Travertine stone throughout the well-equipped kitchen, adjoining dining area and the utility room.
There are four double bedrooms leading from the galleried landing, all having Beech hardwood flooring and a generous provision of built-in wardrobe space. The master bedroom has the benefit of an en-suite shower room and there is potential to create a further en-suite bedroom, if the vast family bathroom was remodelled.
The elevated outlook from the terrace across the rear of the house is second to none; a wide swathe of St. Margaret’s Bay Trust farmland backs onto the garden and it really is the perfect setting for summer parties and al fresco dining. There are two side entrances connecting to the front garden which is largely block-paved to provide additional parking for several cars in front of the double garage.
What the Owner says:
“We have owned the property since new and have brought our three children up here. We have enjoyed the marvellous walks across the clifftops and down to Kingsdown and Deal, enjoying the wildlife (ponies on the cliffs) and rare fauna and the spectacular views of the French coast across the Channel. We enjoy impressive sunsets in the evening from the house across the fields towards St. Margaret’s church. Obviously, the sea is an enormous attraction; children never seem to tire of the excitement of exploring the rock pools in the bay at low tide, yet there is so much more besides the attraction of the bay itself. Much of the countryside around the village is designated as being an ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’ and there are so many footpaths and bridlepaths, which allow free access amongst the patchwork of fields, woodland and chalk grassland pasture.
We shall consider ourselves extremely lucky if we are able to find a similar outlook from our next house. The secluded garden, with its fabulous views from the terrace, has proved to be a source of much pleasure. We have enjoyed making the house into our home and feel the alterations and things we have added will be appreciated by the new owners. We have certainly been very happy living here.”
