Property description

Charming four bedroom Grade II listed townhouse, close to Sydney Gardens on Bathwick Street. The property offers a drawing room, garden room, kitchen/breakfast room, utility room, downstairs W.C., three bathrooms, wet-room and a courtyard garden. The property began life in the early nineteenth century as a general store. It was owned by one family for over a century, and then converted into a most charming and unusual house. When the present owners discovered it they were delighted: a house with great character in such an excellent location was a rare find. It is within walking distance of the vibrant town centre, as well as being close to Bath Spa train station with its high speed rail service into London and the M4 is also easily accessible. Krys says that the house is a very welcoming home and friends and family love to socialise in the kitchen. It is particularly pleasant to come into the Aga warmed kitchen after a cold winter walk, or a tiring day at work. The sitting room is spacious, and perfect for entertaining. It leads into the conservatory that was the old vinegar store room. Nigel explains that these quirky features give the pleasure of living in the house an extra dimension, and make one feel part of its history. The conservatory is perfect for quiet reading and enjoying the outlook to the courtyard garden. The garden is the perfect place for a summer barbecue and is a very peaceful oasis. The bedrooms range over three floors and the master bedroom has a huge cupboard adapted into a dressing room. It also has an original fireplace, and a fire could be lit to make a cosy winter sanctuary. The two bedrooms on the top floor, which would have been the servant quarters, have been perfect for a teenager: with one room for sleeping and the other as a study and music room. The views from the upper rooms look across the rooftops to the countryside beyond. Nigel and Krys love taking the grandchildren to Sydney Gardens or Henrietta Park, both very close to the house, or for walks along the Kennett and Avon canal to watch the barges go by and see the herons and ducks. Bath has a huge range of excellent shops as well as many unique individual stores. The Georgian theatre is a gem and there are many museums and art galleries to visit, as well as the world renowned Music and Literature Festivals. There are also many lively restaurants and bars to visit. It is going to be huge wrench for Nigel and Krys to leave the comfort and style of their home and the area that has offered so much to the whole family.
