The mansion house, Headley Park was built in 1898 by John Newton Mappin, owner and founder of the silversmiths and jewellers Mappin & Webb. The original Headley Park was destroyed by fire in 1897. Headley park was then bought in 1925 by the American financier George Weeks who offered the house to his friend and American ambassador to Great Britain Joseph Kennedy (John F Kennedy's father) as part of the American Embassy at the outbreak of the second World War which he accepted and occupied for a short time. For the rest of the war it was occupied by the Canadian High Commission. After the war, the building was sold to a local developer who converted the house into five residences.
