Property description

This immensely attractive cottage is perfect for anyone looking to bring to reality the dream of living a rural life style. The cottage is situated in an idyllic position along a quiet country lane in an area where public footpaths provide ready access to explore the vast tracts of agricultural countryside that are virtually on the doorstep. The area also has excellent horse riding facilities being close to bridle paths and toll rides plus the convenience of having a substantial livery stable in the village.

The pretty elevations are matched by an interior which boasts masses of character and charm but also functions in a practical sense. The superbly equipped kitchen is a classic example. It features a bespoke range of pine cupboards, craftsman made in a traditional fashion where even the carcasses are built in pine. The exposed beams and range style cooker complete the farmhouse look and the polished granite floor tiles and polished granite working surfaces a touch of luxury.

The cottage theme is also replicated in the sitting room and the vast dining room. Both rooms feature ceiling beams, reproduced inglenook fire places and in common with the kitchen have French doors that open onto the enclosed landscaped rear garden, designed in a way that ensures that on a fine day there will always be a secluded spot to enjoy full sun or some shade.

Westmarsh is a wonderfully peaceful location yet convenient for every day needs. The present owners inform us that the schools bus stops at their door and amenities that are not available in their village can be found in the neighbouring villages of Preston and Ash. There is an excellent choice of schools for children of all ages in the Sandwich and Canterbury area both in the state and Independent sector. The Cathedral City of Canterbury is only ten miles away and has a fabulous range of cultural, sporting and recreational amenities. The City offers a wealth of leisure amenities including theatres, bars and restaurants, a major shopping centre enjoying a range of mainstream retail outlets as well as many individual shops.

What the Owner says:

“We feel we are leaving the worries of the world behind as we drive back home through the country lanes, assured that as we turn through the final bend in the village, we will be met by the welcoming sight of the character cottage we affectionately regard as home. It is always so peaceful here because the village is not on a through route to anywhere else so unless you are coming to Westmarsh specifically, we don’t have people passing through. Consequently life in the village is so restful, there are only about thirty houses and it is the sort of place where everyone makes the effort to say a friendly hello.
To us it is as if the cottage has a heart and soul, it has a lovely comforting quality and visitors always comment that it has a really warm and welcoming atmosphere. We moved here thirteen years ago when it was a tiny two bedroom farm cottage and over the years we have taken a great deal of satisfaction from being able to virtually quadruple its size. It has been so much fun sourcing reclaimed building materials so that the extensions we have added retain something of a period look.
The interior is modelled on a traditional old farmhouse, many of the rustic ceiling and wall beams for example were imported; they had originally come from an old French farmyard barn".
