Property description

This fascinating and important Grade II* country residence was originally conceived by the well-known \"Arts and Crafts\" architect Earnest Gimson in 1908 for Walter and Mabel St John Mildmay, forbears of the present owners. The grounds measures 9.5 acres in total and are a major feature.

Description
This fascinating and important Grade 2-star country residence was originally conceived by the well-known 'Arts and Crafts' architect Ernest Gimson in 1908 and completed by Oswald Milne for Walter and Mabel St John Mildmay, forbears of the present owners. The involvement of the two architects came about as Drakestone was originally envisaged as a major country house, complete with its own staff cottages, and even though the original scheme was scaled down, this did not diminish its significance. The original owners were both talented artists who shared great sympathies with the 'Arts and Crafts' movement and contributed greatly to the interior detail work. The present owners HughSt John Mildmay, grandson of Walter and Mabel, and his wife Crystal have, in accord with the Grade 2-star listing, kept the house in almost exactly its original condition thus making it a very important example of this singular architectural period. It is also the first time it has ever come to the market.

Gardens and Grounds
Standing in about nine acres of Gardens and Grounds these form a very important part of the desirability of Drakestone House and they do not disappoint. Originally designed at the same time as the rest of the house they accurately reflect the influence of the Arts and Crafts movement, which is terracing very prevalent in this general area, and complement the mature and established atmosphere of the house itself. The sculptured hedges and intricate patterned lawns and provide a most attractive foreground to the property.

Services and further land
Mains water and electricity are connected. Gas-fired heating, drainage to a private system.
