Situated in the open countryside of the Vale of Aylesbury, with magnificent view towards Dunstable Downs and Ivinghoe Beacon, Northall is a small hamlet 3.5 miles from Leighton Buzzard, formerly part of the Ashridge Estate. Local amenities are available in the nearby village of Edlesborough with the towns of Tring and Hemel Hempstead within easy reach.
Butlers Manor is a charming period home which is steeped in history. The manor is first mentioned in 1302 when it was held by Philip le Boutiller as a tenant of the Rector of Ashridge College. Believed to be the oldest house in the village of Northall much has been written about the property and it enjoys a particular notoriety in connection with Dick Turpin who was said to have a secret hideaway within the property.
The current moated Manor dates back to the 16th Century with later additions the last of which was added around the 1950s/60s and benefits from a number of character features including original beams and inglenook fireplaces along with an original bread oven in the dining room. The substantial accommodation of around 4,000 square feet (excluding outbuildings) includes a number of noteworthy rooms, in particular the oak panelled drawing room, sitting room with inglenook fireplace, master bedroom with vaulted ceiling and en-suite and the hidden bedroom (six) with concealed staircase which is reputed to have been the haunt of Dick Turpin!
Set in secluded grounds of around two acres with a variety of outbuilding including a detached bakehouse, open fronted four bay barn with attached office and a summer house. Butler`s Manor offers a range of potential further uses in regard of ancillary accommodation subject to necessary planning permissions. The grounds have been well tended and include a hard tennis court and swimming pool (currently not in use, can be re-instated). Previous owners of the Manor have kept horses in a fenced off paddock. A well maintained loose box remains in place.
