Property description

Kingston Hall is a fine Grade II Listed mansion that has been carefully subdivided thus creating an opportunity to own what was previously reserved for aristocracy. No. 1 Kingston Hall is considered to be the jewel in the crown having the original entrance and the main 42ft drawing room to this impressive Elizabethen style home that dates back to 1842. Offering over 4300 sq ft of accommodation with high, painted ceilings and an abundance of architectural detailing the property has six double bedrooms private south west facing gardens that extend to almost half an acre, elevated parkland views and the enjoyment of 16 acres of surrounding parkland and heated indoor pool.

History
Mr Edward Strutt, 1st Baron Belper (later Lord Belper) built himself a handsome mansion at Kingston in the new Elizabethan style. Edward Blore, special architect to Queen Victoria who had worked on Windsor castle and who took over the completion of Buckingham Palace designed Kingston Hall in 1842-46. Built of grey Derbyshire Ashlar that is believed to have been brought to the site along the canals, nearby river Soar and newly opened railway. The main house faces exactly south west thus taking advantage of the sun and impressive parkland views. All major rooms had tall, light windows, decorated ceilings and moulded plasterwork.

History cont'd
The Census return of 1881 gives an indication of the Strutt house-hold at the time. In residence were Henry, 2nd Baron Belper, his wife and four children, brother Frederick Strutt along with the cook and French maid, two laundry maids, two nursery maids, stillroom maid, kitchen maid, nurse, butler and footman. Two further servants and four gardeners lived in the grounds.
