Property description
Nestling on the outskirts of this archetypal Kentish village, with its church on one side of the green and a pub on the other, this delightful Edwardian detached residence is a real family home. From the moment you see it you can envisage bringing up your children in such a family-friendly environment. Whether they want to play outside in the secluded and very well-proportioned garden, sit round the delightful and modern kitchen/dining room or create a world of their own on the top floor, there is something that will appeal to everyone.
While being tastefully modernised the house still retains many of its original features such as dado rails, high skirting boards, picture rails and a fireplace in the delightful sitting room with its large bay window – creating plenty of character. The dining room is currently being used as a TV room but it could make an excellent space for those more formal dinner parties and family celebrations if required. You will enjoy cooking in the well-thought-out modern fitted kitchen with its range cooker and you will never have to worry about the washing hanging around as the useful adjacent laundry and boot room is extremely large. There is even a cellar where you could store your wine.
There are four good-sized bedrooms on the first floor with lovely views across the valley and the garden, a cloakroom and a modern family bathroom as well as a shower room on the ground floor, while the top floor offers a variety of interesting options. At the moment there is a very useful office if you want to work undisturbed as well as a bedroom-cumstudy and a ‘sleepover’ room for the occasional young guest. However, this whole area could become a teenager’s ‘hideaway’ providing that frisson of independence.
What the Owner says:
We moved here from another house in Shepherdswell 12 years ago as we love the village and enjoy the peace and quiet. The primary school is excellent. However, as they are all grown up, we feel it is time to downsize. It is a great place for entertaining friends and family and we have a large terrace for barbecues in the summer. We have some lovely specimen trees as well as a summer house and a small vegetable patch for anyone who enjoys ‘the good life’.
The village includes two excellent pubs and the local Co-op provides for all your immediate needs. There is a post office with its ‘farmer’s market’ style shop selling local produce and plenty of activities in the village hall from a toddler playgroup to a dance school. If you enjoy walking or riding there are a number of footpaths and bridleways as well as the ‘Spartans’ football club, a cricket team and the East Kent Heritage Railway operating vintage trains between Sheperdswell and Eythorne. There is also a mainline station you can walk to for Dover or Canterbury, Faversham and London and a bus stop outside the house – so everywhere is very accessible.
