Property description
Sunnybank is a large and truly unique chalet bungalow nestling in the rolling hills of the Alkham Valley. Surrounded by paddocks and farmland, this delightful property offers spectacular views from virtually every angle. Built by the current owner more than 40 years ago, it provides plenty of flexible accommodation to suit a wide variety of needs. If you have elderly relatives or adult children wanting their own space the property splits easily into two halves. Alternatively, if you have a large family, the spacious and welcoming reception hall and study area, the six bedrooms, three reception rooms, conservatory, wet room and bathroom provides plenty of room for everyone.
From both the large lounge/dining rooms with their individual features there are wonderful vistas across to the stable block, sand exercise paddock and beyond. While the panoramic views from the three upstairs bedrooms are a delight to wake up to every morning.
The spacious country-style kitchen with its range cooker offers everything you need to provide interesting meals for friends and family while the large utility room is well fitted out and could make an ideal second kitchen if required. There is even an external laundry room so you never have to worry about wet clothes hanging around – even in the wettest weather.
The sizeable conservatory with its views over the charming garden is a real hub of the house and, along with the cosy adjacent ‘snug’ with its stone fireplace, is where the family spend much of their time both working and relaxing.
For pony-mad youngsters, the paddocks, sand school, stable block including three stables, a foaling box, feed and storage barns and a tack room, are ideal for a couple of equine friends. However, these facilities could be converted for other uses if required.
What the Owner says:
I bought the original cottage and land some 46 years ago when I was 19. Over the next few years we built the chalet bungalow and my children have grown up here. In fact, my daughter and granddaughter now live in half the house. While it will be a wrench to leave our lovely home, I feel it is time for a change as I shall be retiring soon and we want to start a new chapter in our lives. During the years I have been here I built the stable block and created the three car ports and a large workshop for those DIY enthusiasts but still leaving plenty of hardstanding and a driveway for a horsebox and additional vehicles.
One of the things we have always enjoyed is entertaining. This is a real party house with many of the rooms flowing through to each other so we can cater for large numbers. In the summertime we love having guests for a barbecue on the decked terrace accessed via the conservatory and my daughter uses a separate decked terrace where she can also entertain al fresco style.Although we are ‘in the country’ we are only moments from the M20, Folkestone and the Channel Tunnel, half a mile from Hawkinge with its shops, garage and takeaways and not far from Dover docks, so are quite central.”
