Property description

“Before purchasing The Elms just over twelve years ago we were living in Bristol,” says Dawn, “but we decided we wanted a bit of a lifestyle change. We wanted to find a property that would make a lovely family home in an area that would give us countryside living, fresh air and space for the children. The Elms ticked all of the boxes, especially since it is only 16 miles from Bristol".This handsome property occupies a prime location on the edge of the medieval village of Banwell. “The house was in a really dilapidated state when we bought it,” says Dawn. “A previous owner had at one time split it into separate apartments, and then another had converted it back into one house, but to a very poor standard, so we basically had to renovate the entire property. We did everything from removing the false ceilings and replacing floorboards to installing a brand new heating system. We also converted some of the much smaller bedrooms into en-suit bathrooms to make it a more convenient and comfortable family home, and in recent months we’ve done some major repairs to the gable ends and the chimney stacks, so the entire house is now in excellent structural condition.”The Elms is an extremely elegant home and one that has an easy layout as each of the generously proportioned main living areas flow from the impressive reception hall. “I love every room in this house,” says Dawn, “but I suppose the kitchen in particular, because I love cooking and entertaining and its ergonomic design lends itself to this. It’s a great working kitchen with a large bespoke island in the middle. Just beyond the kitchen is the patio and it's great during the summer because there’s this lovely connection to the garden, and it’s also nice during the winter as we have a hot tub and heaters out there.”“The garden is quite simple in design,” continues Dawn, “so very easy to maintain, but it’s a lovely, sunny space. The patio wraps around three quarters of the house and from there steps lead down onto the lawn. We’ve built a lovely gazebo, which is a nice place to sit when the sun is shining, and because we’re in a slightly elevated position we have beautiful views over the Mendip Hills.”“This has been a wonderful place to live as the location is both very beautiful and extremely convenient,” says Dawn. “The village has a couple of pubs, a convenience store, a Post Office and a lovely primary school. The motorways are not too far away so it’s very easy to access places like Bristol as it is only 16 miles away or Cardiff, and the coast is so easy to get to that we now take it for granted.”“The Elms is a beautiful home,” concludes Dawn. “There’s such a lovely atmosphere within the house, and the location is both peaceful and extremely picturesque.”
