Property description

If you want to create a very special marine residence, then the 1930s this property offers a fantastic opportunity. This unique property is superbly positioned along Cliff Road, with uninterrupted views across Grenham Bay. It incorporates a number of delightful period features including beamed ceilings, stained glass window lights and panelled walls, giving it plenty of character. Whether it is the impressive Art Deco style architecture, the fabulous coastal views or the spacious accommodation and the lovely swimming pool surrounded by a charmingly landscaped garden, there is something to appeal to everyone. However, with flair and imagination you can sensitively update the property by marrying the delightful historical features with everything needed for modern day living to provide the ultimate seaside home.

From the moment you set eyes on the arched windows and beautiful wood front door, you will be impatient to see what is inside. The large welcoming hall includes a brick fireplace, beamed ceiling, oak staircase and parquet flooring and it envelops you with a warm and friendly atmosphere from the moment you walk in. The hall flows through arched wood double doors to the elegant lounge and large, panelled dining room with its central skylight creating an ideal spot for large formal dinner parties and family Sunday lunches. On warmer days, you can wander out into the garden room with views across the terrace to the swimming pool from either the lounge or the dining room.

There is a well-proportioned fitted kitchen/breakfast room with an unusual circular breakfast bar where the family will no doubt spend much of their time. You will find plenty of flexible space for family and friends as there are five double bedrooms on the first floor with views across the garden or the coast as well as two unusual retro-style bathrooms. Two of the bedrooms have vanity units and the large, impressive master is delightful. The ‘Observation’ room on the second floor with its porthole style windows and sliding glass doors to the 360-degree wraparound balcony creates a fantastic space for teenagers to make their own ‘den’. On the other hand, it would make an excellent office if you want to enjoy the views while you work.

What the Owner says:

This was our family home for many years and we have fond memories of growing up here. The position is wonderful as we were able to get to the beach very easily and the large green space in front of the house is excellent for walking the dog. In the summer, if we weren’t going to the beach, we could just enjoy the pool with our friends or have a barbecue on the terrace. The attractive garden also includes little paths and nooks and crannies that were great for playing hide and seek as youngsters and the double tandem garage and long driveway provides plenty of off-road parking for a number of vehicles.

The house was always a wonderful place for entertaining and the family held numerous dinner parties on a regular basis. The festive season was very memorable as the period features really came alive when festooned with Christmas decorations and fairy lights. We always loved sitting on the second floor balcony because you could follow the sun all day or just revel in the amazing Turner skies in the early morning or evening.

The house is not far from the centre of Birchington with its supermarkets, individual shops, pubs, restaurants and mainline station from where our father commuted to London every day. There is easy access to the Thanet Way for Canterbury and London and a bowls and tennis club nearby as well as the Westgate and Birchington golf club for a little gentle exercise.
