Property description
The Grange is a substantial detached period home set in about five acres of beautiful grounds. The property comprises five reception rooms, open plan kitchen/dining/garden room, five bedrooms, impressive sweeping driveway, two paddocks and a range of outbuildings including a games room, garage and dovecote. The owners say: We were attracted to The Grange because it is secluded without being isolated. There are nearby neighbours, but the house is not overlooked from its position on the edge of the village. This beautiful house has lovely gardens, two paddocks and various outbuildings, including the games room, which is perfect for energetic games of table tennis with visiting grandchildren. We have lived at the property for 13 years, having bought it from the founders of the luxury handbag business Mulberry, who started their business in the house. The house was also once home to the local mine manager, and one of the outbuildings still houses the forge where the pit ponies were shod. After moving in, we made various improvements more windows, heating, double glazing, kitchen, parts of the garden - and added the garden room which extends the dining room and kitchen, making it perfect for casual entertaining. The Grange is a few hundred yards from both beautiful Downside Abbey and the related school, which is an independent, co-ed boarding school. Also nearby are All Hallows Preparatory School, the Blue School, Wells Cathedral School and the primary school in the village, while Millfield is not too far. Despite the rural feel of the property, it is only 13 miles from the city of Bath. Closer to home is the nearby convenience store, post office, doctors surgery, hairdressers and pubs of the village: the Somerset Wagon is a particular favourite. We think that the property would be perfect for a growing family as it has lots of space for everyone to spread out. It would also suit someone who would like to work from home as the house has a good study, or the games room could be converted into a separate home office. We spend a lot of time in the bright and sunny garden room enjoying the views over the grounds. The garden is a delight with several contrasting areas, and with the impressive sweeping driveway cutting between the front lawns with their large trees.
