Property description
Originally built in 1823 this exceptional Georgian stately home enjoyed the modest name of Sandling Cottage. However, after the acquisition of further lands and part of Cuckoo Wood the name was changed to Sandling Place to reflect its new found grandeur and became the home of the Mercer banking family.
However, in 1941 this would all change due to the war and this proud home would become the property of the Admiralty and its clerical staff. In 2004 Jeremy Lawson led the refurbishment of the whole building into residential dwellings and the chance to call Sandling Place home for the very fortunate few became reality.
The “North Wing” is a beautifully quirky and substantial home with accommodation spanning four separate floors, each being accessed by your own private turret, one of many highly unusual features to note in this home where new certainly meets old.
Exceptional ceiling height is found throughout and only adds to the feeling of space and this evident throughout. Whether you are sitting in the stately sitting room or relaxing in the modern cinema room this home merges seamlessly together to create a totally unique experience.
Lastly the location, nestling within manicured grounds and within easy access of both Motorway networks and Maidstone town centre convenience is key.
What the Owner says:
Having lived at The North Wing for 11 years we were first attracted to this beautiful Wing in a Ragstone Stately Home by the proportion of all of the rooms in the house as well as the amazing Rapunzel Turret housing the staircase. We can safely say we have never run out of space both inside and out.
The location of our property has been ideal having Maidstone town centre within walking distance, excellent bus and rail links and close proximity to both A2/M2 and the M20 for easy journeys to both London and the surrounding counties.
