Sherburn in Elmet has good local amenities and is exceptionally convenient for the local transport network being some 7 miles from Tadcaster and the A64 links and 9 miles from the A1.  The origins of the village may go back to Roman times and the name reflects the fact that it was once within the Kingdom of Elmet. Within the village itself is a  good selection of independent shops, including a bakers and butchers as well as a football and cricket club. Both South Milford and Sherburn in Elmet railway stations lie within a few minutes’ drive.
