Accommodation
Whitley Lane is a short walk from the church and Charlton House has an excellent tranquil and private position with absolutely beautiful views southwards. Charlton House dates from about 1790, with various later additions and alterations and has all the charm and character of such period properties. It is not listed. The accommodation is deceptively spacious and has very good living areas with the the advantages of a good size drawing room, a farmhouse style kitchen & breakfast room and a principal bedroom with en suite facilities. Also the drawing room, kitchen, sitting room and 3 of the bedrooms are all south facing with the views which really are quite exceptional. The north side of the house faces the lane and there is a pedestrian iron gate in the protecting front stone wall and also a farm gate giving vehicle access. The pedestrian gate opens to a short path to the front porch with a door into the dining hall.

From the inner hall double doors open into the drawing room which is very light and airy with two sash windows (with original shutters) flanking a french door into the garden. The room is well proportioned with two window seats, an alcove cupboard, a shelved alcove and a fine stone fireplace with an inset wood burning stove. (The barn would benefit from some improvement works). On the south side is a large country garden with lawns, a vegetable area, greenhouse, ornamental pond, flower and shrub beds and all well protected by mature trees.A surprising feature is that although the house and garden enjoy a sunny sheltered position they also enjoy the wonderful views.
