Property description

This handsome contemporary property sits in a wonderful location, just minutes from the city centre of Bath. “I think what initially attracted us to Altair House, as well as the convenience of the location, was the fact that it’s just a stones throw from two of the best schools in Bath,” says Mike. “King Edward’s, which is the school that our children attended is some four-hundred yards from the house. Bathwick St Mary’s Primary is literally across the road, and in a recent survey came out as the top Primary School in the BANES district.”“We purchased the house just under eight years ago,” continues Mike, “shortly after it had been built. I actually knew the architect who designed it because in the past he had designed a house for us, and it was the fact that I like his contemporary style that persuaded me to take a look at it in the first place. He tends to design houses that bring the outside in, and that is exactly what he has done here.”This beautiful family home has a contemporary feel throughout and incorporates all the modern conveniences and technology such as a heat exchange system, air conditioning, category five wiring and a surround-sound system throughout. “One of the nicest areas in the house is the open-plan kitchen, dining and living area,” says Mike. “It’s a very sociable space and one that has a great connection with the garden. It has two sets of bi-fold doors, which can be pushed back so the entire corner of the room opens onto the patio. This is particularly nice during the summer months, even in the winter as the patio is lit with lanterns one has a cosy feeling in the warmth whilst still enjoying the patio garden”“Having such an open view of the outside space only works if you have a nice garden to look at,” says Mike, “and we most certainly do. My pride and joy is the ‘Albizia’ tree which produces a magical tropical feel in the warm summer months. The garden was designed by a landscape architect, and he did so with easy maintenance in mind. It’s mainly laid to lawn, but there are structural elements so even in the depths of winter there is colour, and the automatic watering system keeps it looking at its best without much effort on my part.”“I’d say we definitely have the best of both worlds living here. It’s no more than a fifteen-minute walk into the centre of Bath, where we have everything from lovely shops and restaurants and all that Bath can offer Sydney Gardens is 100 metres away through which we can access the canal pathways both East and West, an enjoyable stop off is the ‘George’ at Bathampton which sits right on the canal bank. We have mile upon mile of countryside practically on our doorstep and the City a stroll away.”“Our children have now flown the nest so the house is feeling just a little bit too big for the two of us now,” concludes Mike, “but it has been a wonderful home that, in my mind, has just about everything. I think what I’ll miss most is the ease with which I can get just about anywhere.”
