About the area
South Cadbury is a picturesque village set in the rolling countryside of the Vale of Camelot.The village includes many period houses and cottages built with the renowned honey coloured local stone for which the area is known. There's a local pub and the larger village of North Cadbury with more amenities is close by.There is convenient and easy access to Castle Cary, Wincanton and Sherborne, all market towns with a wide range of shops and amenities.Within the area are highly regarded state and independent schools in the area, including Horsington, Ansford, Abbas and Templecombe, Milbourne, Hazelgrove, Millfield, Chilton Cantelo and the Sherborne and Bruton schools.Communications are excellent with the A303 with its convenient access to London and rail connections from Castle Cary to Paddington and Templecombe to Waterloo.

Historical Note
Cadbury means Cada's fort and refers to Cadbury Castle which is immediately to the south west of the village and adjoins Saxon Hill. It is a vast Iron Age hill fort covering an area of around 20 acres (8 ha) and has seen occupation from Neolithic times until the late Saxon period. It was famously partially excavated in the 1960s, when, amongst other things, an Arthurian period feasting hall was discovered. Coupled with local traditions from the 16th century of a connection with King Arthur there is widespread belief this is the location of Camelot.Saxon Hill sits at the base of Cadbury Castle and is named following excavation of the site which revealed Saxon finds. On the other side of the property is South Cadbury parish church which dates from the 13th and 15th centuries and is dedicated to Thomas Becket.
