Property description

This property is as charming and tranquil as its name. You will find this delightfully refurbished property along a private lane surrounded by farmland in the heart of the Kent countryside. Set in a large secluded garden where you can feast your eyes on the horses grazing in the adjacent fields or just enjoy the peace and quiet while sitting on your large terrace listening to the sound of the birds. This cottage has everything you could want for easy country living. Yet you are only a couple of minutes walk from the bus stop and not far from Folkestone, Dover and Canterbury.

You can feel the warmth and welcome engendered by the property from the moment you walk down the garden path and through the front door. Once across the threshold you enter a light, spacious hallway and are immediately drawn through the inviting archway to the tranquillity of the formal lounge which in turn leads to the large Victorian style conservatory and the garden beyond – all providing a wonderful feeling of light and space. Also from the entrance hall you can enter the well proportioned kitchen/breakfast room with its own stunning views. Here great thought has gone into ensuring everything is available for those who enjoy cooking including two ovens and hobs, a large integrated fridge/freezer, plenty of work surfaces and water softener for improved water quality. This leads into an excellent light, airy and well designed utility room which has its own charm as it also enjoys the stunning country views and its own courtyard access.

For more formal entertaining there is a very elegant dining room and for those who want to keep in touch with the outside world via their computers or who work from home, the good sized study tucked away from the rest of the house is an ideal spot. All the bedrooms are charming and well designed, including the master with its en suite bathroom and walk in wardrobe, while the seating area on the landing adds a lovely touch.

What the Owner says:

We had a vision of the sort of property we wanted to buy when we first came to the UK from South Africa and the moment we saw this property we knew this was the one. The rural location was exactly what we were hoping for and during the past 11 years we have both dedicated ourselves to turning it into the beautiful home you see today. We stripped the cottage back to the bare shell and totally renovated it ourselves. From installing the kitchen, utility room and bathrooms to repainting throughout and making all the furnishings, it has been a complete labour of love. We are only sad that, owing to health issues, we have to move.
We are really going to miss everything about our home but particularly being able to sit in the garden during the summer and enjoy the riot of colour created by all the flowers in our well filled garden, while the roses at the front of the house provide a wonderful welcome for visitors.
There are excellent walks all around us, particular favourites are the ‘secret’ woods which offer wonderful walks through glades of blue bells in the spring. There are charming country pubs in the nearby villages of Elham, Lyminge and Denton. Hawkinge offers more in the way of amenities, it has a thriving community and provides everything you need for day to day living, including a supermarket, surgery and a garage.
