It became a flagship property for our blossoming holiday home business. It is rare to find a property in the lovely Lacock, which really is the quintessential English village.”The simple aesthetic of Methodist architecture ensures that the former Chapel is full of light and space, and Deb and Jim have been keen to maintain this sense of openness in their conversion of the shell of the church into a home. “There is plenty of light from the large windows” they say, “and we have maintained as many original features as possible, including the large wooden front doors, which are just gorgeous. We have built around the existing features of the Chapel, so the windows are not interrupted and you get a lovely cross-section of the building. We don’t even need curtains, as it is so private. The décor is simple, in keeping with the original character – we wanted to show off the building itself, not overshadow it with fancy furniture! The kitchen / dining area has simple wooden units, and an old wooden table and pews we found in a salvage yard which date back to the time when the Chapel was in operation.”Surrounded by beautiful Wiltshire countryside, the National Trust village of Lacock is renowned for its picturesque streets, historic buildings and more recently as a film and television location for Jane Austen dramas and scenes from Harry Potter in the cloisters of the Abbey. “It’s a beautiful little village, and we have enjoyed being a part of the community and lifestyle here” say Deb and Jim. Lacock boasts a local primary school, three popular pubs, a restaurant, post office and a grocery store.
