The properties were owned by the Shaw family and set within the grounds of Shaw Park before Brooklands House was demolished in 1930. It is said that the houses which now stand on Brooklands Avenue were built using the stone from Brooklands House.The Shaw family were mill owners in Holywell Green, John Shaw giving his name to Shaw Close, Shaw Street and Shaw Lane.
