Two playgroups and the excellent St James' primary school provide early years education.  Elstead is in the catchment area for Rodborough School at Milford.  Also nearby are a range of other state-funded, and public schools.

Heathland spreading for miles is just at the end of Red House Lane and provides excellent walking.  A boardwalk from the Moat also enables views of various flora and fauna.
