Follow the road around a sharp bend to the right, then to the left and park in the lay-by on the left (or further up the hill on the road). There is a white gate in an arch on the opposite side of the road which takes you into the garden and up steps to the front of Robinia House. Alternatively, walk up the footpath to the left of the house and through the gate on the right. The Area Butterrow Hill is in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, overlooking the Stroud valleys and hills and set beneath Rodborough Common. There are many walks and cycle rides in the area, as well as the river and canal at the bottom of the hill. Stroud has an award-winning farmers' market and a good range of shops, supermarkets, restaurants and cafes. Many of the local villages have pubs serving good quality meals. There are many good and excellent primary and secondary schools in the area, both state and private: Archway School, Wycliffe College, Beaudesert Park, Stroud High School (grammar school for girls), Marling School (grammar school for boys).There is a regular train service from Stroud to Swindon, Reading and Paddington (90 mins); the M5 is 6 miles away and the M4 30 miles for commuting to Bristol or Swindon.
