The cottage is close to Ollerton Mill which has a rich history dating back to the Doomsday Book and now houses a display of its past and operates as a very good tearoom. There are several pubs close to the cottage and a beautiful church across the road. In 1655 the cottage was used as a coaching inn and was originally called the Bluebell Inn. Evidence of early Tudor brickwork can be seen under the chimney stack to the right of the property and barrel vaults can be found in the cellar. During the renovation many 17th century clay pipes were found and some of the beams still retain the hooks that were used for hanging game. The loft space has an original arch trussed roof which runs the length of the property and has the option (subject to planning) to convert into a usable space. There is a very peaceful Memorial park across the road from the cottage where the River Maun and the Mill Race separate and Sherwood Forest is just a short walk away.
