Property description

Whether you are looking for a charming and unusual country cottage that is full of character as a permanent home or a weekend retreat, this Grade II listed barn conversion could tick all your boxes. Barn End is literally at one end of a barn conversion created from what is believed to be the longest historic barn in Kent. It is on the outskirts of the delightful village of Eythorne and is very peaceful and quiet, surrounded by fields and country footpaths where you can walk for miles but, at the same time, it is within easy reach of mainline stations and motorway links.

Although the conversion has created six terraced cottages, as you enter Barn End from the side rather than the front, you hardly notice you are attached to other properties. Once inside you begin to appreciate the quirky ambience of the place with its plethora of original exposed beams throughout the property coupled to the warm and friendly atmosphere. The family will no doubt spend plenty of time sitting around the breakfast bar/central island in the lovely bespoke country kitchen/breakfast room incorporating a range of fitted units. There are also a number of other appliances available well as a very useful walk in larder.

Visitors will love being entertained in the spacious but comfortable sitting and dining areas. It is everything you could wish for in an historic cottage environment, with its large wood burning stove backed by a brick wall, huge cross beams and vertical beams, wood flooring and patio doors to the garden. There is also a third bedroom with en suite facilities just inside the front door. Alternatively it makes a very useful office or ‘den’.

Upstairs there are two double bedrooms that both have en suite bathrooms although one can also be accessed from the landing. The master includes a spiral staircase to a loft room currently being used as an office, but this would also make an ideal kids’ playroom or teenager’s ‘hideway’. The secluded back garden is an ideal size if you don’t want to do too much work but enjoy sitting outside and watching kids and dogs playing on the lawn. It includes two paved seating areas and a pergola so you can follow the sun all day and it is surrounded by mature shrubs and trees.

What the Owner says:

We fell in love with the barn as soon as we walked inside. However, our circumstances have changed and it is time to start a new chapter in our lives.
It is great to be in the country but still be able to get to work easily because of the nearby station and easy access to the main roads for London, Canterbury, Sandwich and Dover. Also we thoroughly enjoy being able to go straight out of our house onto a country footpath where we can take the dog for wonderful walks.
Eythorne is a true Kentish village and with its churches, post office and general store it has everything you need on a day-to-day basis. There is also a hairdresser and a balloon shop as well as the pub that is only a short walk from the house. The village is a very friendly community and there are plenty of activities taking place in the local hall, including a free pre-school playgroup.
Something different is the East Kent Heritage Railway that operates vintage trains on the old colliery railway between Shepherdswell and Eythorne. The village sits in a lovely part of the Kent countryside and you can also walk in the nearby Waldershare Park – it is real doggie heaven. There is a good primary school and buses that go to the surrounding towns and special school buses that take children to the secondary schools in the surrounding towns.
