Kempsey is a civil parish in the Malvern Hills District in the county of Worcestershire. It is bounded by the river Severn on the west and the A38 runs through it. It is 3 miles west of the historic city of Worcester. The village has a long history. Its name derives from the Saxon \"Kemys\" Eye. Kemys was a Saxon chief. Kempsey features in the Doomsday book with a recorded value of £7.
The local Anglican church of St Marys was built between the 12th century and the 15th centuries and the 15th century tower measures 82 feet high. The composer Edward Elgar lived in the village from 1923 and 1927, during which time he was made 'Master of the Kings Music'. The village has several pubs including one named after the Bishop Walter De Cantilupe.
