Blackheath is a suburban area of southeast London. It is named from the large open public grassland which separates it from Greenwich to the north and Lewisham to the west. The area is predominantly in the London Borough of Lewisham with sections to the north and east in the London Borough of Greenwich. The name is recorded in 1166 as Blachehedfeld and means the 'dark coloured heathland'.
