Property description
Westbourne is a quintessential West Sussex village and this charming cottage is one of the jewels in the crown. It offers a wealth of original features that were uncovered by the present owners and has been supremely and sympathetically brought back to its former self, yet at the time adding essentials of 21st living and life styles. Not listed it allowed the owner to get the best of both worlds.
Step through the oak entrance door and a superb dining hall, provides a delightful prelude to what is to follow with exposed beams and hidden stairs, plus an oak floor that spans most of the ground floor accommodation A full width lounge overlooks the southerly aspect garden, so is a delight in the summer and the Wood burning stove makes it a cosy retreat in the winter. A utility and fully fitted cottage kitchen completes the ground floor and three bedrooms and a bathroom will be found upstairs.
The pretty landscape garden with miniature box hedging and pretty paths is a gardeners dream and the "garden house" has come from a country estate and lovingly re-errected and restored.
As for Westbourne itself, it provides all that you could wish for for your daily living including a post office, Co-Op, award winning takeaways and restaurants. Three friendly pubs and a superb bakery.
Walkers, cyclists and horse riderswill love the proximity of the Southdowns National Park and sailors are a few minutes from Chichester Harbour.
What the Owner says:
This Cottage was originally part of the Stansted Estate and we have lived here for 12 years and have thoroughly enjoyed restoring the cottage. We have removed all the plaster to reveal a wealth of beams and brick walls, fitted oak floors and doors, a new kitchen, double glazing and have decorated throughout.
Work in the garden revealed a brick and flint boundary wall which was hidden by thick ivy and we have designed and planted both gardens so they are easily managed. We have loved walking the many footpaths on the Stansted Estate, Kingley Vale, the South Downs National Park and the beautiful West Sussex countryside. We hope the new owners will enjoy the peace and comfort of this property and cherish it as much as we have.
