About the Area
West Cranmore is a small village east of Shepton Mallet in beautiful countryside between the centres of Frome and Wells. Glastonbury, Yeovil, Castle Cary (mainline station to London), Sherborne, Bath and Bristol are all within easy travelling distance. These centres provide a wide scope of amenities and facilities and there is the added benefit of Babington House being within 7 miles. Bristol airport is also very accessible being about half an hour away. There are good state and independent schools including pre schools, a local primary school Whitstone, Strode College, All Hallows, Downside, Millfield, Wells Cathedral and the Bruton and Sherborne schools. There's also an excellent village pub and a very active community - see www.cranmore-somerset.co.uk.

*
On the outskirts of the village is East Somerset Railway. This was originally closed by Dr. Beeching. In 1967 the artist David Shepherd brought two steam locomotives from British Rail and bought Cranmore station in 1971. The site was derelict and overgrown but a great deal of work by many volunteers resulted in the station being officially opened in 1975. It's now a popular heritage railway with just over 2 miles of track. For more info see www.eastsomersetrailway.com.
