Property description

Nestled within an area of outstanding natural beauty this beautiful character stone cottage offers views which are unrivalled from any other location in this part of the island.

Situated in an elevated position on St. Catherine’s down, the property has a spectacular vantage point over both the valley and the surrounding National trust land from both its principal reception room, bedrooms 1 & 2, and the elevated patio area.

Included within the sale is 3.19 acres of land to include a large paddock with an existing stable building, which can be viewed from the properties elevated position. There is also a range of outbuildings to include a Victorian style greenhouse and a large workshop/store. There is a vast copse screening the property from any neighbours, albeit they are not at all within close proximity.

The access leading to the property really does lead you out into the countryside and the property is found at the end of a long private drive, ideal for any buyers wanting to escape from it all, to their very own place of serenity.

The home has been lovingly restored in a style to suit the properties age and location, and offers a well fitted country kitchen with both an aga and space for a family dining table, with views to the private copse which screens the side elevation of the home.

The principal reception room offers hard wood floors and the walls have been partially panelled giving this room a sense of elegance, with a wood-burning stove to one end.

The property is surrounded by national trust land and has direct access to some of the most breath taking walks and is just a short distance from historic Hoy monument, where panoramic coastal views across the island may be admired.

If a rural retreat is on the top of your wish list with land for animals, or solely to retain privacy, you may of just found your ideal new home.

What the Owner says:

We instantly fell in love with the situation of this property and the truly spectacular countryside views. With no immediate neighbours and biodiversity in abundance, we were immediately struck by the tranquillity and beauty of this utterly unique location. The cottage required a vast amount of updating when we brought it and we have enjoyed improving and restoring this characterful abode. The cottage is nestled into the hillside at the top of St Catherine’s Down, with rear tree screening for privacy which also provides an effective wind break. The cottage has provided generous space to move about, without losing that quaint, cosy atmosphere when it’s time to snuggle up by the fireplace. We have never tired of waking up each morning to awe-inspiring views across the valley and eating breakfast, lunch and dinner on the sunny terrace when the weather is fine. It is far too easy to wile away many an hour on the sun lounger with a good book and we have been completely captivated by this oasis of calm. We enjoy the direct access onto the surrounding National Trust land, which has been perfect for dog walking and every day we take the short uphill stroll from the gate to walk the ridge of the downs and glory in the stunning, uninterrupted, panoramic coastal views. We will be extremely sad to leave, but regretfully work forces a move to the mainland.
