Property description

Built in the early 1900s the delightful this property in St Margaret's Bay is a gorgeous family home with panoramic views across the English Channel. Driving up to the front door through the electronic wrought iron gates and up the sweeping driveway to the front door you can feel the friendly ambience engendered by this charming marine residence. The first room you see is the light and airy formal dining room incorporating an arched window and a fireplace, where at least a dozen people can sit round the table and not only enjoy the food but also the views. There is an unusual and welcoming sitting room with beams ceilings and vertical posts as well as a bay window and an archway framing the lovely brick fireplace and wood burning stove where you can sit and enjoy time with friends. This leads to the garden room with its sets of patio doors to the terrace while the nearby drawing room including another very impressive wood burner, creates a great place for the family to relax. As this is adjacent to the utility room it would be possible to make this a bedroom and use part of the utility room to create en suite facilities or it could also become an office for those wanting to do work from home. You can really enjoy cooking in the modern kitchen/breakfast room with its mellow wood units, built in double oven, hob, dishwasher and walk in larder or just sit around the central island breakfast bar sipping a cup of coffee.

There is a large family bathroom upstairs along with three good sized double bedrooms including the master with en suite facilities. You can wake up in the morning in this room and just revel in the view, watching the ships as they slow down to pick up the pilot and on a clear night you can see the twinkling lights of Calais in the distance. Outside you will find a terrace is at the front of the house where you can also relax revelling in the surrounding vista as well as a single and double garage. However the secluded rear garden includes a raising dining patio area and a brick shed as well as a greenhouse, lawns, some delightful trees, flowers and shrubs.

What the Owner says:

We bought the house in 1970 because we just fell in love with the area and the views. We brought our children up here and have loved every moment - it is a real family home. Over the years we have continually updated and maintained the property. We built the driveway and double garage and are now onto our third new kitchen since we first came here. However, despite it being a wrench, I feel it is time to move to somewhere a little smaller and hope another family will get as much pleasure from the house as we have over many years.
I love the nearby village with its restaurants, hotel and pubs as well as a post office and village shop. There are great walks in the area including steps down to the charming beach where you can stop at the Coastguard pub. Alternatively take a stroll along to the South Foreland Lighthouse. You can even wander over to the old train tracks where large WWII guns ‘Winnie’ and ‘Pooh’ used to run up and down, ready to do damage to the enemy. You will find plenty of wonderful walks along footpaths and trails to Kingsdown and the beach at St Margaret’s Bay. There are a wide range of societies and clubs including bowls, tennis, cricket, football as well as a history and horticultural society. For the younger members of the community there are also very active scout, guide and brownie troops as well as the two riding stables for equestrian enthusiasts. We are not far from the lovely town of Deal with its seafront, individual shops, bars and restaurants.
