Property description
A truly charming detached cottage featuring a wealth of character, whilst being set within a plot of 0.579 acres enjoying a great degree of privacy.
The owners tell us, “Despite the fact that it was a dreary grey day and the cottage was looking very sorry for itself, we declared we wanted to live here right there and then. We just fell in love with the property and its location.
Even after living here since 1997 we still feel delighted when we pull onto the drive after a busy day at work. The cottage looks lovely all year round and, as you step inside, it’s as if the property envelops us with its warmth.
With its wealth of exposed timbers and two cast iron log/coal burners and cosy rooms, the interior of our home certainly comes into its own during the winter months. On a cold Friday evening there’s nothing better than to kick off your shoes and relax in the sitting area in front of the Inglenook fireplace with its cast iron burner boasting a roaring fire and look forward to spending the weekend with friends or family in the cottage.
If we are not in the sitting area or cooking in the kitchen we are often to be found in the garden room, where we also have a sofa to relax in with a good book, whilst double doors open to the garden for easy access.
The outside is equally as pleasing as the inside, with various areas within the gardens that are located to the front, side and rear of the cottage. Directly behind the property is a decking area, where we eat al fresco during the summer months; there’s a rustic timber ‘man cave’, a log store and two useful outbuildings. There is also a small paddock area where we keep sheep and chickens – a lifestyle we always wanted. A shingle-laid drive provides parking for several cars, whilst there is an adjacent natural pond.
We really get the best of both worlds here – a sense of living in a semi-rural area, yet we are only 0.8 miles from Epping Station, making central London very accessible. The bustling High Street is only 1.1 miles away, with its selection of shops, restaurants, pubs and coffee bars, together with its weekly market.
All in all this has been a lovely home to live in and we hope that the new owners will enjoy the atmosphere of the cottage and the benefits of the area as much as we have.
