Property description

A stunning, compact period cottage which has been extended and refurbished by its architect owner, in a contemporary style to a very high standard.

The refurbishment programme included extension to the front and rear, re-wiring, re-plumbing, re-plastering, installation of a new kitchen, bathroom and boiler.

The loft space has been converted to a study and offers lovely views over the village, but would lend itself to other uses.

A particular feature of the cottage is the large pivot door which opens onto the landscaped gardens, bringing the garden into the living space.

The refitted kitchen area and bathroom are contemporary and make great use of the space.

We are advised that The vendor advises us that they park on the gravel driveway, although we understand that this is an unofficial arrangement.

West Ashling is a highly regarded village a few miles outside of Chichester. There is a pretty mill pond, restaurant/pubs and primary school. The location of the cottage is very peaceful and nicely tucked away.

Chichester is within easy reach of the rich countryside of the South Downs National Park. The area is renowned for the Goodwood festivals, and the sailing facilities to the south of the City.

What the Owner says:

This has been our home for fourteen years. The cottage was in a very sad state when we bought it and we have carried out an extensive refurbishment programme, converted the loft space into a study and landscaped the garden in a Japanese style. The house represents what an Australian architect friend described as 'a delightful little haven'.

Our design approach has been contemporary yet respectful of the idiosyncrasies of this historic cottage and sympathetic to its tranquill village setting. The house is compact but through focused design we have sought to maximise its potential. We leave only to fulfill our desire for one more project before retirement.
