Lewisham Area Overview:
Lewisham is a vibrant and diverse area located 5.9 miles south-east of Charing Cross. It provides a great, cost effective alternative to living in central London especially since the arrival of the DLR station. The area is up-and-coming and is proving to be increasingly attractive to first time buyers and young professionals.

Lewisham town centre is a fantastic place for shopping due to the market stalls that sell fresh produce daily. There is also the precinct and High Street that house many well known brands. Lewisham is a major local transport hub, lying on the A20 road towards Dover and at the start of A21 to Hastings, with its own large bus station alongside the railway station for National Rail and (the southern terminus of the) Docklands Light Railway services. London Overground lines run into the north of the borough at New Cross station and New Cross Gate station - once part of the London Underground East London Line, these stations became part of the extended London Overground network in 2010.

Hither Green railway station straddles two main lines into London with frequent services to London Bridge, Charing Cross, Waterloo East, Cannon Street, Lewisham (Docklands Light Railway), and New Cross (East London Line, now the London Overground). The station exits to Fernbrook Road in the east, and Springbank Road in the west.

During the morning peak hours there are up to nine trains per hour leaving for central London. The last train from Charing Cross to Hither Green leaves shortly before 1am. Depending on the time of departure, the scheduled duration of a journey to London Bridge varies from nine minutes to 18 minutes.

In coming years, the area will also be connected to St Pancras International station as part of the Thameslink Programme.
