Tin and copper mining took place here until early in the last century and many of the old engine houses can be still seen here today, including the nearby Phoenix Mine Engine House. Minions is an ideal area to explore the moors through fishing, horse riding and walking.
The villages of Upton Cross and St Cleer are both within close proximity and offer Public Houses, Farm Stores, post office, general store and Primary School.
The Market Town of Liskeard (approximately 6 miles), provides supermarkets, dentists, doctors, veterinary surgeries, leisure centre, Primary and Secondary school. A mainline railway station is within walking distance of the town centre with connections to London Paddington (via Plymouth) and a branch line to the fishing port of Looe.
To the north is the former Market Town of Launceston (approximately 11 miles) which has a 24 Hour Supermarket, leisure centre, primary and secondary schooling, and a range of shopping and recreational facilities.
This part of Cornwall is very accessible. The A38 dual carriageway links Liskeard to the City of Plymouth and Exeter. The A30, accessed from Launceston, links the cities of Truro and Exeter. Both the A38 and A30 link to the M5 Motorway.
