Property description
This Grade II listed cottage in the heart of the town is sure to please those looking for their own slice of local history. Found in a quaint side road, tucked away off the bustling Preston Street, this house is never far from the centre of all the action of the local community. Imagine being able to stroll to the thriving thrice weekly market at your leisure? Or enjoy the vast array of local independent shops, restaurants and pubs.
The property itself dates from 1794 according to the listed building register and retains much character from the era. The beautiful segmental headed windows and beamed ceilings create a warm and cosy atmosphere which will be perfect to cosy up in come winter time. Not to say this house cannot be enjoyed in Spring and Summer – where you can make the most of the courtyard garden, which is small but an ideal place to sit in the sun.
Upstairs, the galleried landing is an amazing feature which is a real focal point of the house – a unique and quirky feature that help make this house a one of a kind. Perhaps surprising is the upstairs bathroom, rare in a older property and sure to be appreciated by those who want character but prefer a more modern and practical layout.
Although the house could benefit from some updating in places, it is certainly ready to move in to and will no doubt be a real joy to work to restore as you go.
What the Owner says:
This house has been perfect for me and I have enjoyed living here so much over the last thirty-odd years. Being so close to all the shops has been lovely and there are so many nice places to walk to and visit nearby.
I remember viewing a number of houses before we came here. As soon as I walked through the door I knew that this was the right one! The space is very good for a cottage, perhaps because the room has been opened up which is unique to this house compared to the neighbours. The kitchen extension was added in the 1970’s which means you have a much better living room and dining space.
