Property description

The Hamlet of Shellness is a small coastal settlement on the most easterly point of the Isle of Sheppey, north east of Harty and south east of Leysdown on Sea. It has a lovely array of individual dwellings which are owned by families as well as individuals. Apart from swimming in the sea there are other activities to keep you busy including two tennis courts, a club house, a football pitch and a outdoor swimming pool exclusively for residents use.

The Hamlet of Shellness seems to have been started by the Romans who built a watchtower and beacon there because the waters of Swale were a quicker safer access to the River Medway than that of the Thames Estuary. A signal beacon existed at one point to warn of an invasion, next came the coastguard station and cottages. The general area has been associated with early flight due to its location near Muswell Manor.

As you walk around the Hamlet of Shellness you can't help but be inspired, it will remind you of a castaway island or some far away island in the Outer Hebrides. It is a lovely place to be on a fine day, it's somewhere peaceful to use all year round and a great second home. Imagine on weekends, the family, bucket and spade in hand, going to the beach which is only a skip, hop and jump away from the cottage.

The property is so remote there is no mains electricity or main drainage and power is supplied by an on-site generator which just adds to its character.

What the Owner says:

We came across the Hamlet whilst out walking. We found the house on line about 3 years later when looking for something else and snapped it up immediately.

Since owning this property we have not stopped making improvements including installing a fabulous wood burner which makes the whole place very cosy. We also replaced the shower and kitchen appliances and re-decorated throughout. We will really miss the fabulous early mornings with no one but the birds and rabbits for company, the dramatic sunsets and the star-filled sky at night.
There are also family events throughout August which brings everyone in the Hamlet together.
