A planned extension of the Manchester Metrolink tram system is to run through Tameside and terminate in Ashton.

Ashton-under-Lyne is a town within the Metropolitan Borough of Tameside, in Greater Manchester, England. Lying on the River Tame under the Pennine hills, Ashton (as it is often shortened to) is 6.2 miles east of Manchester City Centre, 3.8 miles south-southeast of Oldham and 6.1 miles north-northeast of Stockport.
