The Abbey Gateway dates back to 1377 when the monks of the site were issued with a ‘license to crenellate` or build fortified entrances to their abbey complex. The upper storey of the gateway dates back to 1800. Works on the upper storey will include the installation of a private gated entrance way and a sensitive and high specification interior design scheme.
