Carshalton is a suburb of the London Borough of Sutton and located around 10 miles South-West of Charing Cross. In the centre of Carshalton is the Carshalton Ponds, one of the sources for the River Wandle that runs through four London Boroughs before meeting the River Thames.
Carshalton consists of multiple neighbourhoods, arguably the most picturesque of which is Carshalton Village. The village is home to multiple Grade II listed buildings including the Honeywood Museum and All Saints Church. Other places of interest include the Charles Cryer Theatre and an Art Gallery in Oaks Park. An annual environmental fair is held in Carshalton Park, attracting many people from across the Borough to get involved. The popular fair installs over 100 stalls and includes entertainment ranging from music, performing arts and arts and crafts.
There are two railway stations located in the area, Carshalton and Carshalton Beeches. Trains run frequently to London Victoria taking around 25 minutes, London Bridge, Blackfriars, Farringdon and Kings Cross St Pancras.
The history of Carshalton is vast, with archaeologists discovering artefacts from the Iron and Neolithic Ages suggesting it was an early place of habitation. It has been reported that prior to the Norman Conquests, five manor houses stood around the area, owned by five freemen.
