WINKLEIGH, isa large Mid-Devon village with many period cottages. In September 2011,the village topped a national report as the best place in England andWales to bring up children. The report looked at 60 factors grouped intofive categories – education, safety, property, population and amenitiesand Winkleigh came out as number one. It has an attractive villagesquare with shops including a butchers, post office and inns. There is aprimary school, sports facilities, a village hall and an ancientchurch. The village lies in a quiet location just off the Crediton /Torrington road with the A30 trunk road at Whiddon Down reached via thenewly developed North Tawton road which gives access to Exeter and theM5.DIRECTIONS: Ifapproaching Winkleigh from Crediton, take the first left hand turningas signed to Whiddon Down and North Tawton. Follow this road whichby-passes the village to the south, and take the second right turning.Immediately turn right into Westcots Drive, and follow the road untilnearly the end and the property will be found on your left.
